Seems like there is a bug in Powerpoint 2008.
In the Fontlist from the floating Palette you choose the “FOND Name” of the
Font, but Powerpoint internally uses the “Full Name”

These two are very often identical but this is just coincedence.
If you choose the Font from Format->Font, it should work, however.
